April 17
The time has come to say our goodbyes and neither Paulie or
I are looking forward to it. In the end,
I just tell her that we have found another place that is closer to where we
want to be. Truthful and straight
forward is the best approach. She offers
to arrange a taxi for us and we accept.
We get our stuff packed into the back of what appears to be her
boyfriend’s car and we are off. We get a
little mixed up on the directions to the new hotel and we are lost in a maze of
one-way streets without being able to get our bearings. Soon, we find our way and arrive at our hotel
in good time. We get checked in and take
a dip in the pool to cool off. Soon, we are off in search of mango smoothies
which we are able to locate with no problem.
Shortly thereafter, we return to the hotel where we get sucked into a TV
movie (Thelma and Louise) and then head off to lunch. We walk around the neighborhood to discover
some of the local shops including a discount silver store and a book store
where they have a great selection of used books. After a cooling off swim, we return to the discount
silver store for some gifts for our friends back home. We head home for a while and after dinner,
Annie and I decide to check out the Night Market. It is a little bit of a hike, but we find it
after a while. There is an amazing
assortment of items from teak furniture to Zippo lighters and everything in
between. We walk up and down the aisles
of one of the indoor markets and end up running into two German girls that we
met at Khaosan Park Resort. They are taking in a Thai boxing match, which is of
no interest to me and Annie. We say our
goodbyes and we continue our shopping by exploring one of the outdoor
markets. We are very happy that there is
plenty of walking space between the booths, but we soon get caught in a swarm
of the gnat-like bugs that are biting us all over our sweaty bodies. We make a quick getaway and get back on the main
street for more shopping. After a couple
of hours, we are seeing the same things over and over so we call it a night and
return to the hotel around 11:00 to rest our tired feet.
