Loving Khaosan Road

May 3

We awoke this morning early and feeling refreshed after having had a pretty good night’s sleep on the train.  We pulled into Bangkok a little later than planned at around 8:00am and made our way to the taxi stand.  After much cajoling and haggling over the price, I relent and agree to two tuk-tuk drivers to take us back to our Khaosan neighborhood.  These guys are like jockeys at the racetrack and we have mock drag races on the longer stretches of open road.  We have never gone so fast on the tuk-tuks and the kids find it fun to be on a semi-carnival ride through town.  We arrive and make our way to our wonderful, welcoming home away from home and are delighted to see the faces of our friends Ohm, Dada and Tri.  We are able to get into our room and then we enjoy a lovely breakfast before heading upstairs to settle into the room.  Annie and Paulie soon venture off for a little souvenir shopping and the boys and I stay behind and relax.  When they get back, Paulie and I schedule a trip for tomorrow, our last day in Bangkok, to go visit the floating market about two hours outside of town.  Later, we go off to our Rambuttri corner to have lunch and return once again.  Since this is a pretty lazy day, we go off to Chinatown and walk around, finding a new array of food choices that are not available on Khaosan Road.  We enjoy warm chestnuts, pomegranate juice, grilled Tiger prawns and an assortment of other yummy foods before returning home for the night.  Tomorrow will be an early day and we get to bed before too long.
