March 12
Today, after breakfast and our morning swim, Paulie and I
attempt to find a place from where we can mail home a lot of extra stuff that
we are lugging around. We have heard
that shipping fees are less expensive in Bali than Singapore and as a result we
have transported a HUGE bag of stuff all the way here for the purpose of
shipping it home. Paulie is none too
happy about having to be the one to carry said large load, especially since not
one item inside is his. We take a taxi
to a place that has been suggested by our waiter at the El Comedor (Ricky) and
we are off. It is a little difficult to
find, but eventually we come upon the cargo area. The man we need to speak with is not yet in
so we wait for about 20 minutes for him to show up. He takes a look at our package and indicates
that cargo is not the way to go for such a small amount. He suggests that we look for DHL up the
street….we stop for coffee next door to give us the ammo we need to tote our
bag along the highway to the DHL office.
We eventually find it and once we are given the estimate we realize that
none of the items in the bag is actually worth how much it will cost to ship it
home. Paulie is so pleased that we can
continue to carry the large, heavy load back to the hotel. We have to walk about another mile along the
very busy highway, but happily arrive back at our hotel some time later. We split up the contents of the bag, giving
back to each one his items and try to figure out a way to re-incorporate them
into our suitcases. Once that is done,
we cool off in the pool and then Annie, Paulie, Sam and I venture in to town
for lunch. We have a great meal at Café
Luna, where we have eaten before. After
lunch, we debate whether or not to have a massage and decide that yes, we must
go and see about a haircut for Paulie and massages for the rest of us. We return to a place that Paulie would like
to check out and sure enough they can arrange for all of the desired
services. Paulie gets a wash and cut;
Sam and Annie get 30 minute back massages and I opt for the one hour
treatment. Wow…..this is powerful
stuff. We all emerge transformed and
very happy and relaxed. We get back to the
hotel for rest before dinner. This is
our last night and we need to get ourselves packed up and ready for an early
morning wake-up call. This is the point
where we have to start editing the things we no
longer want and I leave a substantial pile in our apartment. Hudson and Sam eat a meal at the hotel and
Annie, Paulie and I return to Sanur one more time for dinner. We eat at a place where we have had lunch and
it is a wonderful meal (sattay or Sate as they spell it, avocado & shrimp
salad, and curry). Back at home, we
charge all of our electronics and get to sleep.
