Bali Beach, Jetski, Hardy's Market

March 10

We once again sleep late and awaken quite refreshed after our very restful day yesterday.  We have tea and enjoy a continental breakfast, before tackling some schoolwork.  We decide to take the shuttle to the hotel beach area.  Before we depart, we take a quick dip in the pool and ready ourselves for the beach.  We cram into the shuttle along with about 12 other people and make the short trip.  Along the way, we make conversation with the lady who is practically sitting in my lap…..best to get acquainted, don’t you think?.  She is here from Melbourne on some “family business” which later turns out to be that a family member is in trouble with the authorities here in Bali.  We have been reading about an Australian man that was caught smuggling drugs through Bali (had 77 balloons in his stomach) and he may be sentenced to the death penalty.  Didn’t want to ask, but I have my suspicions that may be her son and I can’t shake a very unsettled feeling for the rest of the day.  We arrive at the beach, which has been described as a white sand beach…..not sure that I would agree.  There is a small strip of sand with beach chairs and umbrellas propped up against them.  Not the luxurious image we had in mind.  We find our appointed chairs for our hotel and grab towels, then go for a short walk.   We are approached by a man offering to rent a two person jetski and Annie and Sam are stoked.  They get set up and are off.  We watch them in the water in front of our chairs.  Afterward, we take a short walk on the sidewalk – one direction you are bound to get approached to buy something and the other direction is the narrow strip of sand.  Oh well….we finally decide to turn around and seek out a restaurant for lunch.  We find a great beach front place run by a guy with a long thin beard and tattoos all along his arms.  He is Belgian/Flemish and the lunch is really great.  Afterward, we decide to go into town and check out what has been described as the “shopping mall”.  Hudson decides to continue on the shuttle back to the hotel, but the rest of us are game for some local shopping.  We spend about and hour in the very crowded three story mall before having enough excitement and returning back to the hotel to take a relaxing swim.  After resting up, we return to Sanur for dinner and opt to return to El Comedor, the place where we had the exquisite meal two nights before.  There is live music which we all enjoy before calling it a night and returning to the hotel for reading before bed.
