Queen's Beach and final day in Airlie

February 29:

We get up and are happily surprised to see the bright sunny day that awaits us.  This is our last day here and we want to spread our wings to see a few more local sights so we pack into the car and venture off to a beach about 40 minutes up the road.  The irony of being here is that you can look, but you cannot touch.  The blue waters are tantalizingly beautiful, but deadly….any number of perils might get you if you enter the water –sharks, box jellyfish, stone fish or even portugese mano’war.  Wow!  We go anyway and stop at Queen’s Beach in the town of Bowen.  It is a wonderful stretch of sand and we find the most beautiful shells and, regrettably, dead coral on the beach.  We walk along for a good hour before getting back in the car and driving through Bowen which advertises itself as “Muraltown”.  We need to check it out and drive through on our way back to Airlie Beach.  Upon our return, we go back into town where we enjoy lunch before going to the Lagoon, again!  We pick up some books at the used bookstore…..Annie has discovered the delights of reading!  Three books in three days….amazing.  This bookstore will allow you to purchase a book and give you 50% of the purchase price back if you trade it in, which is perfect for us.  We opt to eat out of the fridge for our last night.  We return to the condo and get ourselves packed since tomorrow we are in for a very long day in the car.
