Last day in Singapore, Merlion Park

March 14:

We sleep amazingly late due to our blacked out room, but when we do arise we see that it is a rainy, soggy day and our motivation and enthusiasm are dampened quite a bit to go out and do some of the final things we have been saving for our last day.  The first order of business is to have the prescription filled.  We take the #133 bus to Lavender and ask the pharmacist there to fill the prescription, but she indicates that the doctor has not filled it in correctly.  That means a return trip to the doctor and Hudson and I head back to the hotel for that errand.  Once we return, we go directly to the pharmacy that they indicate can fill it for us.  We get off the train at Somerset and once again are presented with another shopping experience that was unknown to us.  Annie, Sam and I shop at Forever 21 while Paulie and Hudson go to the pharmacy next door.  When they return with sullen faces, it is a shock to say the least.  Guess we’ll be eating boiled rice for the next two months….oh wait, we are already eating boiled rice…..”waiter can you please bring me a raisin for two?”…..as they say here…..”what to do?”
We are then off to see the merlion sculpture that is the symbol of Singapore.  We criss-cross town and arrive at Raffles Place where we continue down to the Singapore River to see outdoor sculptures by Dali and Botero.  We continue along the quay beside the Fullerton Hotel, peeking at their driveway to see what luxury cars are visible today (Rolls Royce and Lotus) as we meander to the Merlion Park.  We arrive and enjoy the view of Marina Bay with all of it’s unique architecture.  We pose with the various backdrops and then return to Raffles Place: Annie & Paulie are going back to the hotel and Sam, Hudson and I are returning to Bugis for one last shopping trip.  We arrive amidst the hustle and bustle of Bugis and make our way to Top-shop to check out the wares.  We continue into the marketplace where Sam finds two t-shirts, but alas, Hudson leaves empty-handed as we return to our hotel.  Once we get back, we are exhausted from walking around.  Sure could use a massage about now.  We somehow find enough energy to cross the street for dinner and then back home for final packing and reducing and reorganizing the suitcases for an early morning departure to Bangkok…..Thailand here we come!!!
